Acorn Playgroup and Pre-School nursery was founded in 1992 in Oaklands, Welwyn. After 18 years at Oaklands, we moved to Welwyn village in 2012 and opened the doors to our new, permanent home on the 16th April 2013.
Acorn offers a flexible, high quality educational care for children from the age of 2 years old up to rising 5 year olds. We aim to create a welcoming, safe and secure environment where we recognise that every child is unique and we strive to extend the child's development and learning through both child-initiated play and adult-led activities.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage in both our Playgroup and Pre-School Nursery. We offer opportunities for the children to practise skills they have already developed and through personal observations and both individual and general planning we prepare the children for life in "big school".
As a registered charity (Charity Number 1054698), the nursery receives government funding for 2 year olds (criteria apply) and 3-4 year olds as well as actively work on fundraising for further contributions.
Acorn Playgroup and Pre-School nursery is registered with Ofsted as a Voluntary Aided School, accredited by the Pre-School Learning Alliance and has a Herts Quality Standard Award.
