If a child can't learn the way we teach,
then we will teach the way they can learn.
What We Offer
We are a community Private Voluntary Independent (PVI) charity run playgroup and pre-school who have been running since 1992. We are registered with Ofsted as a Voluntary Aided School and are accredited by the Pre-School Learning Alliance. Based in Welwyn Village in Hertfordshire, we welcome families from all areas.
Acorn offers a flexible, high quality educational care for children from the age of 2 years old up to rising 5 year olds. We aim to create a welcoming, safe and secure environment where we recognise that every child is unique and we strive to extend each child's development and learning through child-initiated play and adult-led activities.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage in both our Playgroup and Pre-School Nursery. We offer opportunities for the children to practise skills they have already developed and build on these through personal observations; individual child and group activity planning.
As a registered charity (Charity Number 1054698), the nursery receives government funding for 2 year olds (criteria apply) and 3-4 year olds as well as actively work on fundraising for further contributions.
Acorn has access to lots of free parking, making drop off and pick ups easy.
Acorn's inside space is a selection of open plan rooms, allowing easy access to our range of excellent toys and resources. Through the use of a partition the rooms are able to be separated to create smaller learning environments.
We also possess a fully fitted kitchen, allowing easy preparation of a range of healthy snacks. Our kitchen also acts as an additional development area for cooking activities with the children.
Children have direct access to a large secure outside play space that is able to be divided into three separate areas including a secluded sensory area. We have a large decked area which has cover, providing shade during the summer months and shelter on wetter days.
The outdoor area also enjoys a large wooden play fort; large bespoke sand pit and grass sloped area, all of which encourage physical development and exploration.
